Apply, Review, Inspect and Close a Redford Township Building Permit
Redford Charter Township uses BS&A Online for permit applications, fee payments, permit records and inspection requests. Building & Safety also publishes separate paper forms for building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, commercial occupancy, rental and vacant-property work.
This guide shows which permit to choose, what information the Township form requests, how currently posted fees are calculated, when Site Committee or zoning approval comes first and what keeps a permit from closing.

Open the Route That Matches Your Situation
These project paths show the first action and the document most likely to delay approval.
Home addition, renovation or structural work
Start with the Building & Zoning Permit Application. Prepare a detailed scope, construction value, site or plot plan, floor plans, elevations, structural information and separate trade applications.
Electrical work
Use the electrical application. A homeowner permit is limited to work installed by the homeowner in a single-family home the person occupies or will occupy. Work cannot be covered or placed into operation before approval.
Furnace, air conditioning or gas work
Use the mechanical application. The posted form lists residential air-conditioning condensers in the rear yard only and marks several equipment categories as requiring inspector approval.
Plumbing, sewer or waterproofing
Use the plumbing application. Identify every fixture and piping item. Sewer, storm piping, catch basins and some other items require approval before issuance.
Residential fence
Submit the Building & Zoning application, site information and fence details. The posted schedule lists the entire residential fence fee as $55. A Privacy Fence Authorization form may be requested when replacing a shared existing fence.
New business or commercial reoccupancy
Use the Site Committee packet. Submit an original and two copies, color interior/exterior photos, identification and three complete plot/floor-plan sets. Do not occupy before the required inspections and Certificate of Occupancy.
Rental property
Complete Rental Property Registration, include the driver’s-license copy and pay the applicable registration and inspection fees. The posted form lists annual registration and a three-year inspection cycle.
Vacant property
Complete the Vacant Building Registration, identify the owner and responsible party, include identification and arrange the required inspection.
